A pattern rule could be 'add 7 each time' (7, 14, 21, 28...) or 'subtract 5 each time' (50, 45, 40, 35...).
Quick revision
Remember these!
- A pattern rule connects each number to the next.
- 7, 14, 21, 28 follows the rule 'add 7'.
- 50, 45, 40, 35 follows the rule 'subtract 5'.
- 2, 4, 8, 16 follows the rule 'multiply by 2' (double).
- We find rules by looking at relationships between numbers.
- Patterns can add, subtract, multiply or divide.
- Recognising patterns strengthens number sense.
- This prepares us for algebra in later classes.
