Perimeter of Plane Figures
Learning to calculate the perimeter of simple shapes.
Core concept
Perimeter has many practical applications — calculating the amount of fencing needed to enclose a garden, the length of ribbon needed to go around a box, or the distance covered walking once around a park's boundary. For irregular shapes, perimeter is still found by adding all side lengths, even if the formula isn't as simple as for regular shapes like squares and rectangles.

Quick notes
• Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth); perimeter of square = 4 × side.
• Perimeter is the total boundary length, measured in linear units.
• Practical uses: fencing, ribbon length, distance walked around a boundary.
• For irregular shapes, perimeter is found by adding all side lengths directly.
