Reading Large Numbers
Learning to read and write very large numbers using Indian and International systems.
Core concept
In the Indian system, commas separate groups as 3,2 digits from the right (e.g., 12,34,56,789 reads as twelve crore thirty-four lakh fifty-six thousand seven hundred eighty-nine), while the International system groups every 3 digits (e.g., 123,456,789 reads as one hundred twenty-three million...). Converting between the two systems is a useful skill, especially since global statistics and Indian statistics are often reported using different systems.
