Ratio
A ratio compares two quantities, showing how much of one thing there is compared to another, written using a colon like 3:4.
Core concept
A ratio like 3:4 means for every 3 units of one thing, there are 4 units of another, comparing their relative sizes.
How it works
Ratios can be simplified, similar to fractions, by dividing both numbers by their common factor.
Why it matters
For example, the ratio 6:8 simplifies to 3:4 by dividing both numbers by 2.
Key detail
Ratios are used in real life for recipes (like mixing ingredients), maps (scale ratios), and comparing quantities.
